So initially I wanted to read The Auction by LovesBitca8 - a popular Dramione fan fiction. I had it and a bunch of others downloaded for a while just sitting in my Kindle since they were getting removed from AO3. When I finally started to read The Auction, a couple of pages in I realized this is technically the AU and third book in the Rights and Wrong Series, so I had to back track. Thankfully, I also had the other two books in the series also on my Kindle.
While The Auction gave me darker vibes like Manacled, The Right Thing To Do is MUCH lighter and from Hermione’s POV. It starts off post battle of Hogwarts with Hermione testifying in favor of Draco Malfoy getting released from Azkaban. She is working in the Ministry of Magic and ends up working with Draco while he is on probation at the Ministry while trying to rebuild his image and life after getting released.
This one was a really easy, quick and fun read for me! The adult characters still felt very true to their younger selves. The banter between Hermione and Draco is perfection and I really enjoyed the call backs to scenes in the original books and how they played into the plot. I think any *YA/adult* Harry Potter fan would enjoy this read since there are spicy scenes in the book. There were many moments that I could only describe as made me want to kick my feet and giggle, or just excitedly smile at an adorably cute scene. I also enjoyed getting to know some of the Slytherin characters better. Overall, highly recommend and I definitely would want to re-read again in the future! :)

Okay, NOW we can get into the fun bits for those of you who may have already read this one or want to know more. I would call it a “closeted” enemies to lovers since we realize that even though they have outwardly “hated” each other, they both have been in love with each other since Hogwarts.
First off, I’m all for a Dramione romance. I’ll be honest, I was never a huge fan of Ron and Hermione ending up together in the books, if anything I think she should’ve ended up with Harry if it was between the two of them. I think Ron would’ve been cute with Luna, or literally anyone else. I get why it ended up that way and most people probably liked it but I much prefer a Dramione romance. I’ll end my mini rant there.
Anyway… I LOVED all of the little things that they did because of the other, like how she only takes her tea exactly they way he does, or that he knows that she prefers coffee and how she likes it and would have it for her in the morning when she got off the elevator. How he knows she loves blue cheese and that he hates it. How he read her favorite books because she liked them. The whole making out with Pansy on her Patrol route was kind of like pulling a girls pig tails but I still get it and plays into their “enemy” appearance. Their quick witty teasing banter with each other was just always spot on.
The only thing I wished was different was the “Virgin” trope. For as smart, accomplished, independent, strong willed, confident witch as she is, the whole virginity thing just didn’t seem to fit for me. It makes sense as a plot point for The Auction, but it just seemed a little too prudish at times in this book and unnecessary. I did however enjoy the slow burn build up between them though. That was paced perfectly!
I also have to say, I LOVED the ending where he was working to try and get her parents memories back. When I was reading the last few pages of this book to finish it before I headed out to my book club meeting. When I got to the part where we realize he surprised her with parents in the office and they recognized her, I had just ordered my wait and save Lyft when I read it and immediately started to cry. I had to redo my makeup in 2 minutes and decided to save the remaining few pages for when I got back in case it caused more tears. It was a perfect ending for me and the added epilogue with the list for grandpa Lucius was just a cherry on top!
Next up, All The Wrong Things.
Till next time. Just keep reading :)
